I would really really suck at music interviews. Which is why I don't do them. I wouldn't know the lingo and I would definitely come off sounding dumb. I'm sure you weren't as bad as you think though. If you actually decided to do one, you must be better at it than me.

Oh no - are you a Martha fan? Music interviews nearly always suck when you're interviewing someone you really like. You end up being stuck between wanting to scream "OH MY GOD YOU'RE SO FREAKIN AWESOME, SERIOUSLY, THIS IS THE MOST EXCITING THING FOR ME, GETTING TO TALK TO YOU!!" and wanting to act all cool by pretending to care what model mixing desk they used on their last album, cos it sounds "really tight, man".

Worse still is when you agree to interview a band you DON'T care about, to the point where you don't even know what country they're from or what their music sounds like, and then the phone rings and it's them and you've completely forgotten to do any research, and you realise that the next 20 minutes is going to be rather like an extended version of the game on "Who's line is it anyway" where one person has to guess the other's secret identity through cryptic clues.

Not that that's happened to me ever.

I suck at music interviews also... I just don't have the lingo down and end up asking really stupid questions like "so your last album had lots of slow songs on it, will this one have faster songs?". It's almost as bad as my sports interviewing ability. "So, what did you do to win the match?"..."Why do you like sport?". So lame!

Makes me pretty impressed by that Yemeni girl. I couldn't stay coherent in front of a musician and she can face a court on her own at the age of 8!
